All About Lily Chou-Chou is a movie directed by filmmaker Shunji Iwai. All About Lily Chou-Chou reflects the life of middle schoolers who use music, specifically music from the fictional band Lily Chou-Chou, as an escape from the harsh realities of life. Shunji Iwai also has other remarkable films such as Love Letter, Hana & Alice, Swallowtail Butterfly, ect.The fictional band, Lily Chou-Chou, was created for Shunji Iwai's film All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001), serving as a pivotal element in the story. Known for its ethereal, ambient sound, the music captures themes of escapism and emotional stuggle, resonating deeply with the film's characters and viewers. The band's music was composed by Takeshi Kobayashi, and their discography includes the album Kokyū (2001), which features iconic tracks like "Arabesque" and "Kaifuku Suru Kizu" that became synonymous with the movie's mood and atmosphere. Though fictional, Lily Chou-Chou's music has gained a cult-like following for its haunting beauty.Salyu, the voice behind Lily Chou-Chou, began her career as the singer for the fictional band but went on to establish herself as a prominent artist in Japan. With her unique, airy vocals, she breathed life into the band's sound and later pursued a solo career, releasing albums like Landmark (2005) and Merkmal (2008). Collaborating frequently with Takeshi Kobayashi, Salyu has explored various styles while maintaining her distinct vocal identity. Her involvement in All About Lily Chou-Chou remains a defining moment in her career, showcasing her ability to evoke deep emotion through her voice.[ about the actors ]Hayato Ichihara, who played Yuichi in All About Lily Chou-Chou, delivered a very good performance as the main character of this movie. Ichihara has appeared in other various notable films and dramas, such as Rainbow Song (2006) and Yomigaeri (2002). His work branches out to TV series like ROOKIES (2008), where he gained further recognition. Ichihara has won several awards including the Newcomer of the Year at the 2002 Japan Academy Prize.Shugo Oshinari, who portrayed Hoshino, is widely recognized for his role in Kamen Rider Wizard in Magic Land (2013). He also appeared in the live-action appeared of Death Note (2015). Additionally, Oshinari has been featured in several music videos by Kumi Koda, showing his versatility as an actor.Yu Aoi, who took on the role of Tsuda, has collaborated on several other films by director Shunji Iwai, including Hana & Alice (2004). Her impressive filmography also includes One Million Yen Girl (2008) and Romance Doll (2020), among others. Aoi's background in ballet complements her acting talent, earning her the Best Actress award at the 2005 Japanese Professional Movie Awards.Ayumi Ito, who played Kuno, is known for her performances in Samurai Kids (1993) and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005).
